Welcome to Minnesota Talent Leaders…
an idea that has been thought about, pondered, spoken about, kicked around, debated and surveyed about for much too long.
Rather than wait any longer or for the “perfect” time to do this… it’s just time to get going.
I ask for your patience as this journey starts and would like constructive feedback on everything from fonts on this newsletter to having enough coffee at events.
For those of you new to me, my name is Paul DeBettignies and I started as a search firm recruiter back in 1997. No, that is not a typo. If you know of @mnheadhunter on Twitter and/or Instagram, that’s me.
In 2007 I started the Minnesota Recruiters group hosting 17 events until I stepped away in 2012. In 2017 I hosted the Midwest Recruiting Bootcamp.
The past couple of years in my consulting work I have had titles like Senior Tech Recruiter, Senior People Operations Consultant, Principal Talent Advisor usually working in a fractional manner.
I say all that for this… I’ve been heavily involved in this community for a long time.
And for those who do know me, my love of sunsets, fishing, Gopher football is as strong as it ever was as well as an equal strong “reaction” for all things Bucky and Badger 😊
That’s enough about me, at least for now.
Why this, why now
You likely are wondering what is Minnesota Talent Leaders going to be and why this newsletter and event series.
Simple… I, and a number of people how have been pushing me to do this, strongly believe that we need more networking, training and general community. We have awesome groups in town like MNTRN, Twin Cities SHRM and LEHRN. My intent is to pull up along side of these groups, promote and support them and add more learning into the community.
Who this is for
Anyone who in their role is dealing with hiring in corporations, search and consulting firms. Titles ranging from Recruiting Coordinator to Chief People Officer, Associate Recruiter to Talent Advisor, HR Generalist to Chief Human Resources, and Sourcer to Executive Recruiter.
Newsletter
While these first couple of months this may be nearly a weekly occurrence, going forward a bi monthly newsletter that will include a calendar of events, news within the community, and jobs that I have curated. Something I have been doing since 2010.
Events
There will be four a year, two for each edition, with half day formats in the spring and fall.
Recruiting Edition – those doing the sourcing, recruiting, coordinating, employer branding… practitioners
Leader Edition – the managers, directors, VP’S and CHRO’s… the leaders of the talent acquisition function
NOTE: first event dates are set with more info coming this week.
April 26th – Recruiting Edition
June 6th – Leader Edition
“How can I Help”
Very humbled that right after, “Dude, get going with this” the most frequentlyreceived message is, “How can I help?”
The first thing is to click this button
The second thing… tell your colleagues and friends this is starting. Forward them a newsletter, post a link in your teams Slack and if you are feeling bold do a LinkedIn post.
For this moment, I have things covered. Surely as time goes on I’ll learn where I need a hand.
That’s it
I think this covers everything for now.
Back to those new to me and how I work, yes, I am always this laid back. Yes, I sometimes just do things in real time to see what works. Yes, I truly want to know what you are thinking and how as we get this going, I can make your experience better.
To my “old” friends many of whom I have not seen in some time… see you soon. There are a lot of hugs, handshakes and fistbumps to be had.
I appreciate you,
Paul
